War and Photography was the topic of the photography workshop held on October 9 in the grand auditorium of the Rusiian University of Humanitariam Sciences. The workshop was held by: a prominent war photographer Yury Kozyrev /Time/ and his friend and colleague Andrey Polikanov, now the Chief of Photo Department in Russian Reporter magazine, who worked for Time as photoeditor.
Yury Kozyrev and Andrey Polikanov were talking about shooting on assignment at war. Many uneasy topics were discussed, including ethics, moral statement and resistence to pain and grief. There were intresting and useful stories told, lots of practical advice and hints shared. Yury Kozyrev was showing his photos from Iraq in three parts, as the conflict developed, then a slideshow from Chechnya and in the end a series of monochrome portraits Yury was shooting not on assignment, but for his own project.
The participants of the seminar which count over three hundred, were asking many questions to Yury and Andrey. Surely, there are few of the particioants who would work as a war photographer, but this topic is rich in ideas important for everybody working in the field of photography.
